Justice, Cole Valley Style

So, what do you do when you witness a hit-and-run? Leave a note? Curse under your breath? Snap a photo and print posters for the whole neighborhood? A little luck and a little technology helped Derek Powazek go straight for the posters, and I personally hope this is a prelude to a transparent society.

Telemarketing

Yeah, well, it should be illegal, but it's not.

And now there's talk of a 411 cell phone directory. . . Oh, yeah, I even checked that one out on snopes -- Celling Your Soul!

So, in case you haven't heard of it, here is the link to the Do Not Call Registry. You can at least register your home line -- and your cell line if you're paranoid.

Holy Matrimony, Batman!

Will Massachusetts single-handedly destroy marriage?

This is a good article, kids, I highly recommend you read it, if only to discover "The Wiggles" website. But most importantly to support your married lesbian friends . . .

Note: Here's another good one. It's hard to respond to the ridiculousness of the issue with anything less than full blown sarcasm.

Discouraging Pedophilia?

Can't make my mind up about this web site, Perverted Justice. There was an article about it on Salon.com (but it's premium, so the link wouldn't work here), and it's basically a site where vigilante types go to chatrooms and pose as underage boys and girls. When they're approached, they try to get as much information about the would-be pedophile that they can, then reveal their identities and post the whole session on this site. They're not cops, but they hope to discourage this kind of trolling for kids on the internet. I don't know whether it works - apparently people find would-be pedophiles on this site and harrass them, too. It's an interesting approach, I suppose.
